Fuller Seminary’s Brehm Center hosted Dana Gioia, the Poet Laureate of California and professor of poetry and public culture at the University of Southern California, in April 2016 for a conversation between Gioia and Brehm Center Director Mako Fujimura on the role of poetry in shaping culture. Gioia offered insights from his years as director of the National Endowment for the Arts and shared his own poetry throughout the evening event, which took place at Fuller’s campus in Pasadena, California.

Fuller’s Brehm Center guides and nourishes deeply formed spiritual leaders to care for culture through worship, theology, and the arts. A movement championed by Mako Fujimura, “Culture Care” sees beauty as antidote to cultural brokenness, recognizing the power of artistic generosity to inspire, edify, and heal the church and culture.
